Most important gear for the batsman is willow bat. The cricket bats are mostly made of Kashmir willow and English willow.

English Willow: This willow is soft and fibrous. This willow is the first choice due to its high-performance effect when striking the ball. Most professional players use English willow bats as they provide a sweet spot to a batsman. Quality of English willow is determined by the number of grains available at its surface. A Cricket bat with 6 to 12 grains indicates good quality willow. Bat with the lower number of grains is softer than bat having more number of grains. So bat with lesser grains require more knocking to reach its optimal performance.

Kashmir Willow: Kashmir willow comes from India. This is a substitute for English Willow. The Kashmir willow is harder wood in comparison to English willow.  Player will not experience the same "sweet spot" as in english willow when striking the ball. This willow is used to make cheap cricket bat.

Cricket field, at the centre, is placed a rectangular pitch with dimension of length 22 yards (20 meters) with wooden wicket(set of three stumps made of wood and two bails over them) at each end. The game is divided into different phases called an innings, during which one team bat and tries to score maximum runs whereas other team bowls and field and tries to stops opponent scoring by taking wickets. After finishing their innings both the teams swap their roles. In the end, the team who scores maximum stands as the winning team.

a) Beginning of Game

To begin the match, captain of both the team toss a coin on the pitch, and who so ever wins the toss has the right to decide whether to bat first or ball. Two batsman gets ready wearing his cricket batting gloves, cricket batting pads, cricket helmets and lots of more small accessories, from the batting side plays whereas eleven players of opponent team fields and tries to stop them scoring runs. One player out of eleven bowls and other ten fields. Bowler also tries to bowl the batsman and if the batsman gets bowled out then other players from the team come and replace the bowled player.

b) Different forms of dismissal

Different forms of dismissal are bowled i.e when bowler strikes the wooden stumps with the cricket leather ball and dislodges the wooden bails or leg before wicket (lbw) i.e when batsman tries to stop the cricket ball using his body instead of cricket bat or caught i.e when the batsman hits the cricket leather ball into the air and any of the fielders catches the cricket ball directly without letting it to touch the ground.

c) Scoring in Cricket

Team who is batting can scores in different methods i.e either by hitting the cricket ball so hard that it crosses the boundary or by running hard between the two wickets before the fielder hits the cricket ball on the stump.

d) Umpire Role

And all the things are managed by the two umpires who remains on the cricket field, helped by the Third umpire and Match referee in international matches. Umpires remains in contact with two off field scorers (one per team) who record all the data including runs, dismissals, overs, etc.

e)  Different Formats of Cricket

Cricket game is played in different format like Twenty20 ie single inning played for 20 overs. Test Match i.e single inning played with unlimited overs. ODI i.e single inning can play maximum of overs 50.

Specialist Roles in Cricket

The most experienced and skill full player of the cricket team is the captain, which may possess skill of a batsman, a bowler or a wicket-keeper. According to the Cricket Laws captain needs to fulfill certain responsibilities in terms of nominating his players to the umpires before the match and ensuring that his players conduct themselves "within the spirit and traditions of the game as well as within the Laws".

The wicket-keeper is a one of the specialist fielder who is subjected to various rules within the Laws about his equipment. He is the only member of the fielding side who is permitted to effect a stumping and is the only one to wear cricket wicket keeping gloves and external cricket wicket keeping leg guards. Depending on different qualities, other ten players in the team are classified as specialist batsmen or specialist bowlers or  even as all rounders. Generally, a team will include five or six specialist batsmen and four or five specialist bowlers, plus the wicket-keeper.

Innings

In a match each phase of play is called an innings. Depending on the different types of matches, each team is opted to play either one or two innings. Sometimes it happens that all eleven members of the team take a turn to bat but sometime it happens that an innings can end before each and every player gets his chance. In one day an innings ends if the batting side is "all out", a term defined by the Laws: "at the fall of a wicket, further cricket balls remain to be bowled but no other batsman is remaining to come in".  In such situation, one of the batsman has not been dismissed and is termed not out; this is all because last batsman is left with no patners and according to the rules there must always be two active batsmen while the innings is in progress.

An innings may end early while there are still two not out batsmen.

•the batting team's captain may also declare the innings closed even though some of his players have not had a turn to bat: this is a tactical decision by the captain, because he believes that his team have scored enough runs and need time to dismiss the opposition in their innings

•the set number of overs (i.e., in a limited overs match) have been bowled

•the match has ended prematurely due to bad weather or running out of time

•in the final innings of the match, the batting side has reached its target and won the game.
